Support for Female BTech Students

IIT-Bombay has launched a scholarship program targeting female BTech students, with plans to provide financial assistance to 60% of these students starting in the 2026-27 academic year. The initiative, known as WINGS (Women INspiring Growth in STEM), aims to eliminate financial barriers for women pursuing engineering degrees at one of India’s leading institutes.

Initially funded by an alumnus and his wife to support 60 young women, the program has rapidly expanded its goals to cover 100% of female students within the next two years, thereby encouraging greater participation of women in STEM fields.

Financial Contributions and Accessibility

The WINGS initiative invites contributions from individuals, alumni, and organizations, with funding options ranging from ₹2 lakh for one year to ₹8 lakh for the full four-year BTech program. This financial support will help female students cover tuition fees, allowing them to concentrate on their studies without the burden of financial stress.

Currently, female students represent about 20.15% of total admissions at IIT-Bombay. To improve this ratio, the institute plans to add supernumerary seats for women, actively working to create a more inclusive environment.

This program addresses these disparities by focusing on financial support and fostering a supportive community for female students.
