Trichy Launches Online UG Admissions
Trichy has initiated online registration for undergraduate admissions in government colleges. This process commenced on May 7 and will continue until May 29, enabling students who have completed their Class 12 exams to apply online. According to Times of India, this initiative aims to simplify the admission process and alleviate the complexities associated with in-person applications.
New Course Code System Introduced
This year, a new “course code” system has been implemented, allowing students to select their desired course along with their preferred medium of instruction, either Tamil or English. This change is expected to enhance clarity and flexibility in the application process, making it easier for colleges to identify students’ preferences.
As noted by Colleges Freejobalert, this adjustment is part of a broader effort to modernize the education system in India, responding to the increasing demand for transparency and accessibility in higher education.
K Angammal, principal of Thanthai Periyar Government Arts and Science College, stated that a help desk is available for students needing assistance with the online process, ensuring that all students can navigate the system effectively.
Support for Students
The online registration system is designed to cater to a diverse student population. By allowing students to choose their medium of instruction, the admissions process accommodates linguistic preferences, which can significantly impact learning experiences. K Angammal, principal of Thanthai Periyar Government Arts and Science College, stated that a help desk is available for students needing assistance with the online process, ensuring that all students can navigate the system effectively.
Addressing Challenges
Despite the advantages of the new online admissions system, challenges persist. Not all students may have equal access to the internet or the necessary technological skills to navigate the online application process. This digital divide could disadvantage some applicants, particularly those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.

Moreover, institutions must ensure that their systems can handle the influx of applications. Technical glitches and server overloads have posed significant hurdles in similar systems during peak application periods, and institutions in Trichy will need to prepare adequately to address these challenges.
