San Francisco, USA — Former Google employees have launched Sparkli, an innovative AI-powered learning app designed to captivate children’s curiosity. Founded by Lax Poojary, Lucie Marchand, and Myn Kang, Sparkli aims to transform how kids engage with educational content. With a focus on interactive experiences, the app seeks to fill a gap in traditional education methods that often fail to address children’s innate curiosity.

The founders recognized a significant challenge in educating children about complex topics. Poojary recalls instances where his son asked questions about how cars work or why it rains. Traditional responses often fell short of engaging his son’s interest. “Using tools like ChatGPT or Gemini to explain concepts to a six-year-old was still too text-heavy. Kids need an interactive experience,” Poojary explained. This realization led to the creation of Sparkli, which offers an immersive learning journey.

Sparkli allows children to explore predefined topics or pose their own questions, creating a personalized learning path. The app features a blend of audio, video, images, quizzes, and games, designed to make learning fun and engaging. Each day, it highlights a new topic, encouraging kids to learn something new regularly. The founders aim to teach skills like financial literacy and entrepreneurship, which are often overlooked in traditional curricula.

Why Sparkli Stands Out in Education Technology

Unlike many educational apps that offer static content, Sparkli leverages generative AI to create media assets on the fly. This means that children can receive tailored responses and learning experiences almost instantly. The founders aim to reduce the time it takes to generate these experiences, making the app even more responsive to children’s needs.

To ensure that Sparkli effectively serves its young audience, the startup made strategic hiring decisions. They brought on board a PhD holder in educational science and a teacher to guide the content development process. This approach aligns with their commitment to pedagogical principles, ensuring that the app not only entertains but also educates.

Safety is another critical concern for the founders. With rising scrutiny over AI tools, especially regarding children’s safety, Sparkli has implemented strict content guidelines. For example, while topics like self-harm are handled sensitively, the app redirects children towards emotional intelligence and encourages discussions with parents. This thoughtful approach aims to foster a safe learning environment.

Currently, Sparkli is piloting its app with a network of schools, reaching over 100,000 students. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with teachers using the app to create engaging expeditions that facilitate classroom discussions. By mid-2026, Sparkli plans to open up consumer access, allowing parents to download the app for home use.

The startup has successfully raised $5 million in pre-seed funding, led by Swiss venture firm Founderful. Lukas Weder, the founding partner, expressed confidence in the team’s ability to create a product that not only engages children but also teaches them valuable skills. As a parent himself, Weder sees the app as a way to divert kids from passive entertainment like video games towards active learning.

In addition to the engaging content, Sparkli incorporates features that encourage regular use. Kids earn rewards for completing lessons and can track their progress through quest cards based on their avatars. This gamified approach mirrors successful elements from popular apps like Duolingo, making learning feel like an adventure.
