About the July 2020 issue
The July 2020 inaugural issue of Career Ahead offers guidance for young aspirants and seasoned professionals. Its cover story, "Who Wants to be an Entrepreneur?", is by UK startup guru Stephen Page. Page considers how education, desire and peer pressure shape early career choices. He notes that it is never too late to change direction and start a business, though entrepreneurship is high-risk and demands the right character. He cites passion, belief, adaptability, resilience and determination, and stresses listening to advisers without compromising the core purpose and understanding key financial metrics, since "Cash is always King."
The issue features a Q&A with stand-up comedian Papa CJ. He holds an MBA from Oxford and has performed over 2,000 shows in over 25 countries. After three years as a management consultant in London, he took a one-year sabbatical, saw stand-up for the first time at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and took to the stage three months later. He performed 700 shows across the UK in his first three years, returned to India in early 2008 and started Delhi's English-language comedy circuit in early 2009. He is a motivational speaker, corporate coach and author of the autobiography Naked, launched at the Jaipur Literature Festival in January 2020.
Vishaal Uppal writes about professional tennis in "Turning your Passion into a Profession." Drawing on his experience representing India in the Davis Cup, a bronze medal at the 2002 Busan Asian Games and his role as captain of the Indian Fed Cup team, he describes the desire, discipline and dedication professional tennis demanded, and the lack of support for sports in his youth.
Other contributors address Covid-19's effects in several fields. Kirti Tandon examines education's evolution and teacher training in "Education after Covid-19." Guneet Ohri offers teenagers advice on managing anxiety, staying connected and building skills in "Covid-19 and Teens – Opportunities and Challenges for Teenagers." Dr Suryasnata Das explains the roles of pathologists, biochemists and microbiologists in "Career in Laboratory Medicine after Covid-19." PK Mohan Kumar considers tourism growth and talent gaps in "Way Forward in the New Normal – Hospitality Education Post Covid-19."
