The AI App Revolutionizing Custom Feeds

This week, Bluesky, a social media platform, unveiled a new AI-powered app called Attie, which allows users to build custom feeds using natural language commands. Attie was presented at the Atmosphere conference by Bluesky’s former CEO, Jay Graber, now chief innovation officer, and CTO Paul Frazee. The app leverages anthropic‘s Claude AI model and is built on Bluesky’s underlying protocol, the AT Protocol (atproto).
Introducing Attie
Attie is a standalone app, not part of the Bluesky social network, and is designed to be user-friendly, allowing users to shape their feeds without needing to write code. According to Toni Schneider, interim CEO of Bluesky, “It’s a new product — it’s not a part of the Bluesky app. We’ve launched a lot of things inside Bluesky — Starter Packs and custom feeds, and all those kinds of things. This is a standalone product, and it’s the first one that’s built by Jay’s new team.” The app uses data from the open social networking protocol atproto, which includes Bluesky, to understand user preferences and suggest content.

Custom Feeds Take Center Stage
Bluesky’s focus on custom feeds and AI-powered curation comes at a time when social media platforms are facing scrutiny over their impact on users, particularly regarding addiction and mental health. A recent court verdict in the US found that Instagram and YouTube are addictive and deliberately engineered that way, leading to concerns about the responsibility of tech companies in safeguarding users. With 10,000+ founders, investors, and tech leaders gathering at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026, the conversation around AI and its applications in social media is heating up.
A Game-Changer?
The launch of Attie and Bluesky’s emphasis on AI and custom feeds could signal a shift in how social media platforms operate and interact with users. By giving users more control over their feeds and experiences, Bluesky and similar platforms may be able to offer a more personalized and engaging alternative to traditional social media. As Schneider notes, “We think AI is a very powerful technology, but we want to make sure that we use it to build things that really benefit people.”
The Ecosystem Effect
The development of Attie and Bluesky’s underlying protocol, atproto, could have broader implications for the social media ecosystem and the way apps interact with each other. With the ability to build custom feeds and vibe-code their own social apps, users will have more control over their online experience. As the social media landscape continues to evolve, Bluesky’s focus on AI, custom feeds, and user control may position it as a key player in shaping the future of social media.

If Attie and similar technologies succeed in giving users more control over their social media experience, it could lead to a significant shift in the way social media platforms operate. With 1,000+ founders and investors coming together at TechCrunch Founder Summit 2026, the conversation around AI and its applications in social media is expected to continue. As Bluesky continues to develop and refine Attie, it will be interesting to see how the app and its underlying technology shape the future of social media. If Bluesky can successfully empower users to control and personalize their social media experience, it may be well-positioned to benefit from the growing demand for more user-centric social media platforms.
