Good News for Gaming Enthusiasts – AVGC Task Force Announced in 2022 Budget

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the creation of a new task force to promote building capacity in the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comic (AVGC) sector, to serve domestic as well as global demand in the sector, which is seen as one with great potential for job creation and opportunities for the youth. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal had commented earlier that the sector has the potential to become the torch bearer of ‘Brand India’. The move was appreciated by Indian E-sports personalities who are hoping for the creation of a robust infrastructure for game development to support the industry and boost job creation in terms of professional gamers, casters, commentors and other support staff such as producers, game testers, analysts, editors and so forth. Spectrum auctions for 5G services were also mentioned by the Finance Minister, for the rollout of 5G services in 2022-23, which would further disrupt the industry by enhancing live streaming and cloud gaming.
