Odisha’s ShaktiShree App Enhances Safety for Female Students

Odisha's Chief Minister launched the ShaktiShree app to help female students report harassment in higher education. This initiative aims to enhance safety and empowerment.

Empowering Female Students in Odisha

Odisha, India — Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi recently launched the ShaktiShree mobile application, aimed at enabling female students in higher education institutions (HEIs) to report harassment. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance safety and empowerment for women in educational settings, providing a secure platform for students to voice their concerns and seek assistance.

During the launch at a national workshop on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Majhi emphasized that education should extend beyond textbooks to include creating a supportive and safe learning environment. The ShaktiShree app reflects the government’s commitment to addressing harassment and discrimination faced by female students, coinciding with rising awareness around women’s rights and safety in India.

The app’s introduction aligns with the government’s allocation of Rs 41,273 crore for the education sector in the 2025-26 financial year, underscoring the importance of educational reforms and infrastructure. This funding will enhance educational facilities and implement programs promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Bridging Academic Learning with Practical Experience

In addition to the ShaktiShree app, the Chief Minister unveiled new internship guidelines designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical experience. These guidelines aim to prepare students for the job market by promoting internships, community engagement, and skill-based learning, aligning with the NEP’s vision for integrated education.

Majhi noted that the internship program would provide students with valuable work experience and help them develop essential skills needed in today’s competitive job landscape. By fostering partnerships with industries, the government seeks to create a pipeline of skilled workers who can contribute to the state’s economic growth.
