Amazon Shuts Down Its Online Learning Platform
Amazon.com is a multinational technology company focusing on e-commerce, cloud computing, online advertising, digital streaming, and artificial intelligence. It also launched its online learning platform for high school students two years ago. The Amazon Academy platform was launched to help prepare students for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).
“The online preparation offering will equip students with in-depth knowledge and practice routines required for the JEE through the curated learning material, live lectures, and comprehensive assessments in math, physics, and chemistry,” the company said during the launch of the online learning platform.
In an unfortunate turn of events, the company announced that it will be shutting down this online learning platform as of August 2023. The company also promised to refund the full fees of the students who are enrolled in the current academic session. After a thorough assessment, the e-commerce giant has decided to continue the Amazon Academy in phases to take better care of its current customers.
“At Amazon, we think big, experiment, and invest in new ideas to delight customers.” “We also continue to evaluate the progress and potential of a product in services to deliver customer value, and we regularly make adjustments based on those assessments,” one of Amazon’s spokespersons said when asked about the reason to shut down the online learning platform.
The company added that all customers will have full access to the entire campaign material, which will be available online for an extended period of a year, until October 2024.
The company did not share the exact reasons for shutting down Amazon Academy, but it is fairly assumed that this move is part of its ongoing cost-cutting measures. Amazon has already cut about 10,000 jobs this month and is planning to eliminate some major roles in various divisions, including devices and services.
Amazon has also shut down the team that makes AWS tutorials, another online course. Furthermore, Amazon has decided to shut down its food delivery service in India as well.
