Climate Change – An Undeniable Truth

2021 is perhaps the most turbulent year globally since the beginning of this century. I don’t remember ever experiencing as many floods in different parts of the world as we have this year, with so many severe fires, earthquakes, heavy hailstorms… Disasters have claimed many lives, but climate change still seems to be a marginal topic for the media. So, can we afford to continue to deny climate change? Absolutely not!

Global carbon dioxide emissions have increased by 60% since 1990, and this year, in 2021, we expect carbon dioxide emissions to increase again after last year’s fall due to coronavirus. This shows that political leaders do not really understand, or do not want to understand, that action is needed now. The world urgently needs systemic change, as we have essentially moved away from renewable energy sources by increasing fossil fuel emissions again. And, once more, systemic changes are needed to reduce carbon emissions along with the immediate introduction of renewable energy sources, which is simply not happening fast enough now, and we need to work on that.

If we do not act now and continue to function with greed as a driving force, it is quite possible that we will destroy this planet, and planet B certainly does not exist. Here I would like to recall a Native American saying that resonates with my beliefs on this subject:

Only when the last tree is cut down, only when the last river is poisoned, only when we catch the last fish, will we realize that money cannot be eaten.
