The state government disclosed the plan on July 14, 2026, during a press briefing led by Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar. All components are part of the newly released Karnataka AI Policy, which the government said will guide the rollout.
Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar, representing the Karnataka state government, outlined the steps to operationalise the AI ecosystem. The university will be built on a 100‑acre site in Bengaluru with additional regional centres distributed throughout the state. The AI Hub will serve as a research and industry collaboration platform, while the two data centres are slated to be powered by renewable energy to meet green standards. AI education will replace existing vocational subjects in the high‑school curriculum and will be delivered in place of the third language under the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF).
