On March 27, 2026, the QS university Rankings and QS Subject Rankings 2026 were released. They highlight India’s growing global academic stature, led by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Nearly 100 Indian institutions feature in the latest QS subject ranking, marking a 120% rise over five years. Notably, 44% of these institutions improved their rankings this year—the highest among major global education systems.
IITs’ Global Dominance
IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi anchor India’s rise in the QS World University Rankings 2026. Multiple IITs secured top 50 positions across engineering disciplines. IIT Bombay secured rankings in Computer Science (44), Electrical Engineering (44), and Civil Engineering (42). IIT Delhi excelled in Electrical Engineering (36), Mechanical Engineering (44), Computer Science (45), Chemical Engineering (48), and Civil Engineering (50). IIT Madras also performed well with Petroleum Engineering ranking 29. The institution showed strength in Civil and Mechanical fields. Additionally, 5 Indian institutions are in the top 100 for Chemical Engineering, 6 each in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, and 10 institutions in the top 200 for Computer Science.

The institution secured the 36th rank in Engineering & Technology.
